Observations of 4.26 μm CO2 Auroral Emissions From AIRS Nadir Sounder Measurements

چکیده
The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument onboard the NASA Aqua satellite is used to observe aurora associated with CO2 4.26 μm emission. These observations are due non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) resulting from vibrational excitation of CO2, which arises in process auroral energetic particle precipitation, as opposed dayside NLTE occurring solar radiation. confirmed be using Sounding Atmosphere Broadband Emission Radiometry (SABER) limb measurements and SuperMAG Electrojet (SME) index. high spectral resolution low noise AIRS allows for emission spectrum calculated arise CO2. Our new index values derived provide ability globally measure events a spatial on order ∼13.5 km.

Integrated Water Vapor Measurements from Atmospheric Infrared Sounder ( Airs ) and Surface - Based Global Positioning System Receivers
Integrated Precipitable Water (IPW) vapor estimates derived from a network of ground-based GPS receivers provide an accurate, convenient, and statistically robust means to assess the quality of AIRS water vapor retrievals over the contiguous United States (CONUS). For a period from April to October 2004, GPS IPW estimates were paired with AIRS data nearly coincident in time and space. The match...
متن کاملDayside temperatures in the Venus upper atmosphere from Venus Express/VIRTIS nadir measurements at 4.3 μm⋆
In this work, we analysed nadir observations of atmospheric infrared emissions carried out by VIRTIS, a high-resolution spectrometer on board the European spacecraft Venus Express. We focused on the ro-vibrational band of CO2 at 4.3 μm on the dayside, whose fluorescence originates in the Venus upper mesosphere and above. This is the first time that a systematic sounding of these non-local therm...
متن کاملJupiter’s polar auroral emissions
[1] This paper reports a study of Jupiter’s polar auroral emissions observed in an extended series of FUV images. They were obtained on seven days, during winter 2000–2001, with the STIS camera on board the Hubble Space Telescope. The fixed pointing yielded highly accurate and consistent tracking of emisson features as Jupiter rotated, allowing the analysis of the auroral morphology and brightn...
متن کاملDeriving convective structure from microwave sounder observations
Microwave sounders have been used for many years to measure the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere, i.e. the three-dimensional distribution of temperature, water vapor and liquid water, both from space, from aircraft and from the ground. Currently, the most advanced satellite based microwave sounding system is the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU-A and-B) operating on a number of weath...
